Colin Ward was born on 14 August 1924 in Wanstead, Essex. He was a British writer, known for his works on anarchism and mutualism. Ward was initially drawn to anarchism during the Spanish Civil War, and he came to it again during World War II. As a result, he began a lifelong journey of writing, editing, and engaging with his central intellectual passion.
He died on 11 February 2010. One of Ward's biggest contributions to anarchist theory was his belief in the policy of direct action. As an educator, he also focused on issues of housing and the built environment. His works like 'The Child in the City' (1978) and 'Cotters and Squatters' (2004) highlighted the principles and applicability of anarchist design. Ward's writings and ideas have continued to inspire generations of thinkers within the anarchist movement and beyond.
