Ricardo Mella Cea was born on April 13, 1861 in Spain. He was one of the first writers to balance anarchist ideals with intellectualism, and was a prolific writer on anarchist theory. He was an active participant in the anarchist Congress of Zaragoza in 1872, and later moved to Catalonia where he engaged in intensive journalistic activities. He contributed to countless periodicals and newspapers.
Mella is best known for his development of mutualism and his profound influence on anarchist thought.
