Renzo Novatore

Renzo Novatore - Advocate of Individual Freedom

Renzo Novatore was born on May 12, 1890, in Arcola, Liguria, Italy. He lived in a relatively quiet period in Italy, except for the First World War and the rise of fascism. Having been influenced by Friedrich Nietzsche, Max Stirner, and poet Gabriele D'Annunzio, he advocated for individualistic, anti-bourgeois, anti-political, and anti-authoritarian philosophy.

Through several pseudonyms, he put out dozens of pieces of writings—ranging from essays, poetry to fictional stories—most notably 'Toward the Creative Nothing' and 'My Iconoclastic Individualism'. He was an active participant in armed insurrections against the fascist regime, using violent means when necessary which reflected through his philosophical works. He died in a shootout with Carabinieri in 1922. His ideas and writings have made him a respected figure among radical anarchists, particularly those espousing individualist anarchism or nihilism.
