Fredy Perlman

Fredy Perlman, Prolific Anarchist Thinker

Fredy Perlman was born on August 20, 1934, in Brno, Czechoslovakia. He immigrated to the United States with his parents to escape the Holocaust. Perlman went on to earn multiple academic degrees and taught at several universities before devoting himself to radical activism and writing.

Perlman died on July 26, 1985. He was a profound anti-systemic theorist, author, and activist. He was co-founder of the Black and Red press along with his wife Lorraine Perlman in Detroit, in 1968. Through his writings, like 'Against His-story, Against Leviathan' and 'The Reproduction of Daily Life', Perlman critiqued the reigning system of capitalist production and seemed to advocate a return to hunter-gatherer societies. His work had a major impact on several anarchist movements, including anarcho-communism, primitivism, and post-left anarchy.

Quotes by Fredy Perlman

Every time we take a step we're surrounded by the ideological birds of prey who feed on our possibilities, fill themselves with concepts of our desires and reenslave us with beautiful combinations of words which seem to depict the world we failed to realize.
